Reading Strategy: Comprehension: Making Connections / Prior Knowledge

1.   Good readers make connections with the text they are reading. Good readers are able to use their prior knowledge to help them understand and get meaning from the text.
Connections can be with something that has happened to them. These are called text-to-self connections.
Readers may make a connection to something that they read in a different text. These are known as text-to-text connections.
Readers may also make connections to information or experiences they have knowledge of from the world around them. These are called text-to-world connections.
Connections help readers understand and remember the text they are reading.
